Giveaway Day!

Once again, it is time for Giveaway Day, sponsored by Sew, Mama, Sew.

Welcome to my blog, where I share bits of my life, including my sewing projects, recipes I make, books I read and occasional travel. Have a look around if you'd like.

Today I am giving away a reusable sandwich and snack bag. They are lined with ripstop nylon, and have a velcro closure. They can be wiped clean, and best of all, reduce waste. I made these little bags with leftover scraps from the Aviary 2 line.

So how do you win?

Tell me what you do for a living.

Are you a teacher, a lawyer, or a florist? If you are a mommy, tell me who you are a mommy to. If you are a student, tell me what you are studying.

I will choose 1 winner, randomly. I will ship to the US or Canada only.

Contest will stay open until Friday.

I work in a not-for-profit medical laboratory, performing infectious disease testing on organ and tissue donors. That way, when we transplant an organ or use skin grafts, we don't give a new death sentence (like HIV, or HCV) while we're trying to save their lives.

I work night shift, ten hours a night, and I'm HORRIBLE at bringing food to feed myself. Maybe these would help!

kitblu said...

I am an Industrial Engineer (IE) and since hardly anyone knows what this is I will explain. Although it contains the word industrial it can be used in any workplace. US hospitals are increasingly hiring IEs, which bodes well for health care. The job encompasses quality control and inventory control (somehow that hasn't translated to limiting my fabric stash although I do have it all itemized as to colour, fabric, quantity and where it is) as well as efficiency and productivity. This last is what I practise.
I do this in many ways but what I like best is to talk to the people doing the work. The workers know what is wrong and oftentimes have a viable solution.
Another aspect is ergonomics, which focuses on how you work (ergo = work). When sewing, for instance, you want all the items you need often close to hand; you don't want to overstretch to reach something. You also don't want to have to get up all the time to retrieve an item. A poorly organized workplace or poor body movements can lead to repetitive strain injuries like carpel tunnel syndrome and golfer's or tennis elbow.
Another important aspect is error proofing. In a hospital: if drug mix ups are a problem, change the container size, shape or colour; if steps are missed in the operating room, develop a checklist for surgeons to follow, including what the operation is and which leg, eye, kidney, etc. is the problem.

Hopefully that is not more than you wanted to know about IEs!

I'm a 3rd biology student at university, hoping to go on and get a masters in either Zoology or Ornithology ( I love birds); I really like the fabric you used. I'm going to be taking classes from 10-5 every day, so cute sandwich bags would come in handy.
Thanks for the giveaway!

I've been a SAHM for 15 years to a wonderful young man who is now 19. He has Asperger's syndrome (Autistic spectrum) so life has been a lot of work but completely fine and satisfying. I am working at this point on redefining what will hopefully be a happy and productive 2nd half of my life as my son grows older and more independant. I love sewing, all needlework, crochet, crafts, paint, gardening and cooking. That's pretty much me in a nutshell.

At the moment I am a SAHM but I will soon be going back part time to my life in Office Admin.

I could really use these! Cool giveaway. :)

I'm a stay-at-home mom to Emma and Eli, and I grow vegetables, raise chickens, and make needlefelted figures. In my former life I milked goats for a small dairy and worked as a copy editor, but I've had lots of random jobs. The one I have now is my favorite. :)
